Here’s to 2008
Well, I didn’t post anything in November… December can’t be the same way.
Everyone makes plans for the new year, every year. We don’t always manage to do what we planned, but planning is already part of the good path.
In 2007, many good things happened here. We finally finished all the documentation for the move, my daughter was born, and I completed my master’s degree… all in one year. For 2008, it’s time to start a new business venture, continue studying statistics and mathematics, program a lot, and maybe finish writing a book about programming in Python, publish at least one scientific article… Of course, that’s all part of my plans. But I’m sure there will still be some things left to do by the end of 2008 :-)
This is what the new year is all about - taking time to reflect on life and continuing to navigate.
I continue researching optimization of transfers in high-latency networks; it’s become a bit of an addiction. That’s why I’m diving deeper into statistics and mathematics. I still think that parallel processing has a lot in common with networks, and I hope new solutions will emerge to tackle this type of problem in 2008 - although I think better solutions won’t come until 2010…
In 2008, I might be able to test the power of GPUs for parallel processing… which is just an excuse to buy a new gaming monster :-), but it’s also very interesting. One thing you have to figure out when your TV time decreases is what to do with all that free time. If you’re not sure, play WOW… it’s my favorite time-waster.
Happy and prosperous New Year to everyone!
